Harvard and Florida Gulf Coast University — one is considered to be one of the most prestigious institutions in the country, the other has only been in existence since 1997. Yet both schools have become this year’s “Cinderella Stories” in the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament.
When searching for news about both teams, words like “Underdogs” and “Bracket Busters,” are being used to describe their performance in the tournament thus far.
This is the first that that Florida Gulf Coast University has even made it into “the bracket” after becoming eligible last year, so to have them upset an “old standard” like Georgetown is surprising and intriguing.
Then there is Harvard, who has produced presidents, politicians, and Nobel Laureates. It goes without saying that their accomplishments in the academic realm are incomparable. However, up until this tournament, when one thought of Harvard, they did not think “Basketball Stars.” That’s a great story — being the unexpected victor when you’re only known for your academic prowess.
Whether you follow basketball or not, it’s always fun to see an underdog story in sports.
Leave a comment if you’re following the tournament and tell us what teams you’re rooting for!
